Furfural Influences Hydrogen Evolution and Energy Conversion in Photo-Fermentation by Rhodobacter capsulatus

چکیده
Furfural, as a typical byproduct produced during the hydrolysis of lignocellulose biomass, is harmful to photo fermentation hydrogen production. In this work, effects furfural on production by Rhodobacter capsulatus using glucose substrate were investigated. The characteristics cell growth, production, and end-products with addition different concentrations (0–20 mM) studied. results showed that negatively affected maximum rate total yield. yield 2.59 ± 0.13 mol-H2/mol-glucose was obtained without furfural. However, 5 mM 40% increase in concentration. Furfural high can favor overproduction accumulation inhibitive end-products. Further analysis energy conversion efficiency most underused unconverted when concentration high. consumption (93%) achieved furfural, while it dramatically declined 7% 20 addition. index half-maximal inhibitory calculated 13.40 mM. Moreover, possible metabolic pathway discussed.

Clustering of genes necessary for hydrogen oxidation in Rhodobacter capsulatus.
Three cosmids previously shown to contain information necessary for the expression of uptake of hydrogenase in Rhodobacter capsulatus were found to be present in a cluster on the chromosome. Earlier genetic experiments suggested the presence of at least six genes essential for hydrogenase activity that are now shown to be in a region of approximately 18 kb that includes the structural genes for...
متن کاملComplexes of Rhodobacter sphaeroides and Rhodobacter capsulatus
Photosynthetic bacteria offer excellent experimental opportunities to explore both the structure and function of the ubiquinol-cytochrome c oxidoreductase (bcl complex). In both Rhodobacter sphaeroides and Rhodobaeter capsulatus, the bCl complex functions in both the aerobic respiratory chain and as an essential component of the photosynthetic electron transport chain. Because the bc~ complex i...
متن کاملNucleotide transport in Rhodobacter capsulatus.
Cytoplasmic membrane vesicles isolated from the gram-negative photosynthetic bacterium Rhodobacter capsulatus catalyzed the transport of nucleotides. No transport occurred in the intact bacteria unless they were pretreated with EDTA. The transport rate was measured by incorporation of radioactive phosphate into externally added ADP or by incorporation of nonradioactive phosphate into added labe...
متن کاملTranscriptional Profiling of Hydrogen Production Metabolism of Rhodobacter capsulatus under Temperature Stress by Microarray Analysis
Biohydrogen is a clean and renewable form of hydrogen, which can be produced by photosynthetic bacteria in outdoor large-scale photobioreactors using sunlight. In this study, the transcriptional response of Rhodobacter capsulatus to cold (4 °C) and heat (42 °C) stress was studied using microarrays. Bacteria were grown in 30/2 acetate/glutamate medium at 30 °C for 48 h under continuous illuminat...
متن کاملControl of bacteriochlorophyll accumulation by light in Rhodobacter capsulatus.
The accumulation of bacteriochlorophyll in Rhodobacter capsulatus grown either anaerobically or under low aeration is repressed by bright light. It has been proposed that an intact photosynthetic membrane system is required for light-mediated regulation. This was tested by measuring bacteriochlorophyll accumulation in various mutant strains grown under 3% oxygen. Mutants lacking either the reac...
